Climbing the Ladder of Success
Hey Guys.
Monday and Tuesday of this week I was out on a shoot for a Tylenol commercial with a company I am interning for. It was probably one of the best experiences I have ever had in my career as a filmmaker. On set I was a PA (Production Assistant), and I had to do a lot of heavy lifting, a lot of “shushing” and a lot of helping out in general.
I got the chance to talk to one of the crew members, who told me that if you work hard and show up early to everything, your name will be heard around the crew and eventually people will start to hire your for other gigs. Over time, that hard work that you have been contributing will end up paying off. It just comes to show you how all these big name guys started off. (i.e: David Fincher).
On set people are incredibly willing to share their production knowledge. I had no idea how to stack sandbags until one of the grips stopped what they were doing and took the time to teach me. It was a truly humbling experience. My advice to everyone reading this is to go out there and make a name for yourself. Take whatever job you can find, big or small, and give it 100%, because over time you will work your way up and become something no one thought you would be back when you were stacking sand bags.
